Dear Members of the European Parliament,
I am trying to help you to identify a data-driven, scientific, cost-effective working strategy to defeat cancer.
On 15 February 2022, I was told by MEPs assistants that the MEPs Final Plenary Vote on the BECA Report (https://bit.ly/3BqbWCk) was postponed until 16 February 2022 at 12,30 pm and that on 15/02/2022 at 20,00 were voted 38 new Amendments to such report that were translated into 24 languages (https://bit.ly/3oREW0X).
I studied your new 38 Amendments and combined them (62 pages) into a single document in English to facilitate reading (https://bit.ly/3LBIqye). It will be important to discuss all of its content, however, because this would require hours and/or many pages, I have at this time, limited my comments by extracting statistics from the new Amendments that are indicative of the strategy to defeat cancer by those who propose those 38 Amendments, which underline the same strategy described in the 56 pages of the Final BECA Report (https://bit.ly/3BqbWCk).
In the 62 pages of the 38 new Amendments I counted 210 times the use of the word “alcohol”, 21 time the use of the word “ethanol”, 43 times the use of the word “tobacco”, 22 times the use of the word “cigarettes”, 5 times the use of the word “screening”, 0 times the use of the word “early”, 0 times the use of the word “detection”.
In comparison my proposed 15 Amendments in 11 pages (https://bit.ly/3J7IPqg), for which I received only 16 signatures of support out of 705 Members of the European Parliament, and therefore were not included in the discussion nor in the Final BECA Report, I counted 39 times the word “screening”, 11 times the word “early” and 10 times the word “detection”.
Reading the new 38 Amendments, there are several inconsistencies such as, apparently expensive wine is not causing cancer, while the cheap wine does, without explaining which theory, calculations and/or data are supporting this claim.
Overall, in the 56-page Final BECA Report and in these last Final Amendments it is clear the objective of the MEPs is to convince the Europeans by 2025 to drink less alcoholic beverages and at some point, using the 4 billion Euro per year for an intense propaganda that wine is causing cancer, being able to convince European to a near zero consumption of alcohol and everyone should stop smoking cigarettes.
This is not realistic, not even by spending 10 billion Euro per year would MEPs be able to convince Germany, Belgium and the northern countries to stop drinking beer, to cancel the Octoberfest, etc., and/or convince the Spanish, French, Italian who have been drinking wine for more than 2000 years from the Roman Empire that now they need to stop drinking wine. Likewise, MEPs will not be able to convince all Europeans to stop smoking cigarettes.
MEPs should expect (perhaps in ten years, after spending more than 50 billion Euros and no Europeans drinking alcoholic beverages) results show a drastic reduction of the 1.3 million cancer deaths per year to prove they were right.
However, there is no need to wait ten years to prove that this strategy is wrong, because, we have these data for many decades from the 6.5 million Mormon community in the U.S and from the 16 million worldwide who do not drink alcoholic beverages.
More than 10 years ago, in the slides from my presentations I used statistical data of cities, counties and the entire State of Utah that has the highest percentage of Mormons even then MEPs would be disappointed to know that their cancer strategic plan is proven not to work by available data before starting the plan.
Instead, we have experimental data telling us that early cancer detection can reduce cancer deaths up to 98% for breast cancer and for many other types of cancer.
Cancer is not defeated with demagogy or the power of propaganda/advertisement, for example repeating 210 time the word “alcoholic” in 28 pages as in the New Amendments (https://bit.ly/3LBIqye) voted on 15 February 2022, so the European will be convinced that is causing cancer, but by having a meeting and discussing my numbers, calculations, analyzing scientific evidence like those presented in my 15 Amendments (https://bit.ly/3J7IPqg) and in the table (https://bit.ly/3s57tRx).
How many times do people have a tumor that was not detected by either CT or MRI? Like the person dear to me when a CT did not detect the primary 2.5 cm tumor at the appendix. It detected only the 7.5 cm secondary tumor at the ovaries and the surgeon had to remove her ovaries, uterus, Tubes of Fallopian, appendix, two small tumors at the liver, scrape cancer cells from the colon and the pancreas. Or, for myself that after detecting two masses at the pancreas and two at the renal with three MRI and two CT exams in one year, I still do not know if those are benign of malignant tumors.
How many times have you heard someone who found a breast tumor with palpation and a mammography a week or a month before said that was cancer free?
This should not be a surprise and should be understandable also to a non-specialized person in the field that a device detecting the anomalous biological processes of 100 cancer cells before they grow to millions of cancerous cells and change morphology to be detectable by mammography is not an effective early cancer detection.
I need to meet you experts and discuss about numbers. For example, the biology dictionary (https://bit.ly/3JBlFZL) informs that “Human beings are complex multicellular organisms made up of trillions of cells. Scientists estimate that the adult human body contains around 37 trillion human cells and 200 different cell types. The human microbiota (a collection of microorganisms found primarily in the gut) consists of a further 10-100 trillion microbial cells.” The average weight/size of a human is 70 kg or 70.000 cm3 , which corresponds to 528 million cells per cm3 (37.000.000.000.000 / 70.000 = 528,571,420). Another source of the University of Rochester Medical Center provides the information of 3.93 to 5.69 billion red blood cells per cubic centimeter and 3.3 to 8.7 white blood cells per cubic centimeter (https://bit.ly/3HVY6ua).
Why 21 years after I invented the 3D-CBS that can detect anomalous biological processes in tumors with 100 cancerous cells, are CT’s and mammography’s still advertised and used for screening claiming early detection to save lives, although they only measure tissue density and detect tumors when they have millions or billions of cancerous cells?
Why do Members of the European Parliament not organize a meeting between myself and the experts they trust? Recently, a MEP from one group of the Euro Parliament and with whom I had a teleconference in mid-January 2022 told me very enthusiastically about a person who installed the latest Siemens CT in an hospital in Puglia and another in Bergamo, Italy that would be very efficient to detect cancer with a screening test. I was told that I would be introduced to this person because we had the same goal of saving lives through early cancer detection.
I made a simple search on the web and I found a Siemens Somatom Go 128-slice installed at the Gorla Hospital in 2021. I provided this information to the MEP, together with one page comparison table (https://bit.ly/3rOmg46) with other CTs built by Siemens, pointing out that it was not the best machine from that company but was at the third level although it was a new model. On February 5th, 2021 I had and exam on the best Siemens CT, which is Somatom Force, dual beam, 384-slice (192×2), 0.24 mm resolution, however, my 3D-CBS is hundreds of time more efficient and cost-effective in detecting cancer at an early stage and I would not use the Somatom Force for screening for me or for anyone else, because the radiation risk does not outweigh the benefit.
After sending this information, the MEP dropped the communication, no introduction to the person who installed the two Somatom Go in Italy, no discussion on my Amendments, that I was promised they were going to be discussed with the European Group on Monday, February 7th, 2022. We kept cordial messages exchanges however, MEP messages were always “I am busy”.
I realized that it must have been a shock for the MEP and for the person who purchased those two Siemens CT to find out that they had been deceived by false advertisement that Somatom Go would save many lives through screening for early cancer detection, instead it was not and they will not be able to prove their machine will reduce cancer deaths in the area they will use it.
However, if I would not share my professional knowledge on the features of these different machines and provide comparison tables compiled by the PET manufacturer, it would have been even worse for thousands of patients to believe that they had a CT exam assuring them they were cancer free, only to find out (like the person very dear to me) that they were not, because the machine was not sensitive enough.
Likewise, in one year I had three MRI’s and two CT exams with the best machines, dual beam CT with 384-slice (192 x 2) and 0.24 mm resolution and still doctors cannot tell me if my cysts at the pancreas are benign or malignant mucinous. A person that I know and his oncologist faced the dilemma of removing a cyst with a dense mass inside without knowing if it was a malignant tumor or benign. They could not take e a biopsy because by perforating the cyst, a malignant tumor could spread everywhere in metastasis. Only after removing both, the cyst with the dense mass inside, the pathology report at the microscope confirmed it was a malignant tumor. Instead my 3D-CBS device sensitive to the biological activity of fewer than 100 cancer cells of the denser tissue inside the cyst, could have provided the information if it was a benign or malignant tumor.
As we have the proof from the decades of data from the Mormon community that BECA strategic plan is wrong in claiming alcohol is an important cause of deaths and spending billions of Euros would not significantly reduce the 1.3 million cancer deaths per year in Europe, there are several other things driving the caregiver in the wrong direction.
We cannot defeat cancer with demagogy or advertisement, but we need to sit at a table among experts and discuss about number, about estimates and being competent that we could achieve those numbers, those estimates when we make measurements on a sample population after implementing the strategy.
To avoid driving 450 million Europeans in the wrong direction, it would be wise to postpone this historical document of the BECA Report and take the time to discuss a strategy showing numbers that is working to reducing every year the 1.3 million cancer death and costs. It would be better to have a document to refer to that shows day after day working than a document with a strategy that we know before starting that, even if all Europeans stop drinking alcohol like the Mormons, the cancer deaths reductions will be insignificant and at a very high cost.
